Dreams do come true.....
Joe's Grandpa Mumford passed away the end of May, at the age of 92. He lived in Portland (Beaverton) Oregon. The funeral was the day after Memorial day. So Joe and I decided to make the trip a very quick vacation. We left on Sunday at 3:30pm bound for Portland. We pulled into our hotel in Pendleton at 11:45 that night. The next morning we hit the road again. We reached Cannon Beach at 1:30pm. Poor Victoria got sick when we got out of the car from all of the motion. I was so grateful she waited until she got OUT of the car!! After getting her cleaned up we hit the beach. Neither of the girls had seen the ocean before. I had shown them some pictures of Cannon Beach on the net before we left home. Victoria (in her cute little voice) kept repeating "water, rock, bubbles". That is all she talks about even today. So when we got there, well I had never seen her so excited in her life!!! Kendra was in Heaven too. All she wanted to do was make a sand castle. Joe could not wait to fly his kite on the beach. He wanted to dip it into the ocean....and that he did. Me...I was in a dream...a dream coming true before my eyes!! I love the Northwest coast and beaches...I was, home. I was floating on cloud 9 right up to heaven. I got to curl my toes in sand and took as many deep breaths as I could. Then I played and played and played with my girls. I taught them how to chase waves!!! The whole time thinking of my Grandma Nessen teaching me to chase the waves my first time on the beach. Then reality came back and our so very, extremely, short 2 hours where up. We needed to head back to Beaverton to make Kendra's dream come true of swimming in the hotel pool. First we grabbed a bite to eat in Cannon beach. My little meal that only cost $16 was not so good. It was a big pile of flavorless crab on an english muffin. It was food though...right? Then we got on the road again for the 1 1/2 drive back to Beaverton. We checked in the Hotel, dropped the bags in the room, changed into our swimming suites and hit the pool. It was great. We had the indoor pool and hot tub to our selves for 2 hours. The girls had a blast. Vic loved the hot tub and Kendra made big steps in loosing her fear of water!!! She was jumping into the deep end for Joe to catch her. She also went under the water many times!!! I was so happy to see her start to like it. We then got some dinner (@ 9:00) and went to bed. The next day we got up and went to the funeral. We got to see Joe's Mom who has been serving an LDS mission with his dad in New Jersey for 13 months. They will be home in Oct. It was great to see her! After the funeral we all went to dinner and then....you guessed it hit the road to home. We left Beaverton at 9:00pm. We pulled into Baker City at 2:45 am. Joe wanted to grant me one more memory. (He is the best!) When we used to travel from Seattle to Salt Lake we often stopped in Baker City to eat breakfast at The Sumpter Junction restaurant. There is a train that goes around the restaurant. It was fun cause Victoria has a big thing for trains. That was the second most excited I had ever seen her. It was fun. Then....on to home. We got home Wed. at 5:45pm. Like I said QUICK vacation. It was amazing!!! We can not wait to go back ( for longer)!!!
